Most store and items can be exchanged in store within the return policy time frame. 

You can also return purchases via our online return center and place a new order. To start your online return, visit the find your order page. Locate the item within your order history and select return next to the item. Follow the prompts to complete your return.

Exchanges on free promotional items are offered with a valid receipt if the free promotional item you wish to exchange is defective and we have a replacement item in stock.

We can attempt to look up the receipt for your purchase. Bring the item, a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license) and the method of payment used to Guest Services within the return window allowed for that item (see Target Return Policy).

The store can look up receipts for purchases made with the following methods of payment:
  • A Target REDcard™ (Target Debit Card™, Target Credit Card™, Target™ Mastercard®)
  • Third-party Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, and Discover® credit cards
  • Checks: You must bring a blank check from the same checking account
  • Target GiftCards: You must have the physical Target GiftCard for look-up

If the item is store returnable, you may exchange it for a like item at a Target store. For items that are not returnable to a store or if the item is not available in stores, a replacement item can be sent to you at no additional cost.

Online replacements are only available for the exact same item and must be shipped to the same address as the original order using the same shipping method.

To request a replacement, call Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. Keep in mind, once you request a replacement you cannot return the item to a store as this will cancel the replacement request.
