Most items purchased in store can be exchanged at Guest Services within the return policy time frame, and we'll honor your promotional or sale price with the exchange.

If you’d like to exchange an item purchased on Target.com, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. If the item you want is available, we can process a return and place a new order for the item, honoring the original purchase price.

Exchanges on free promotional items are offered with a valid receipt if the free promotional item you wish to exchange is defective and we have a replacement item in stock.

Receipts for Target.com purchases can be accessed and printed from your Target.com account.

We can also attempt to look up the receipt for store and Target.com purchases in store. Bring the item and the method of payment used to Guest Services within the return window allowed for that item (see Target Return Policy).

The store can look up receipts for purchases made with the following payment methods:
  • Target REDcard™ (Target Debit Card™, Target Credit Card™, Target™ Mastercard®)
  • Third-party Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, and Discover® credit cards
  • Checks: You must bring a blank check from the same checking account
  • Target GiftCards: You must have the physical Target GiftCard for look-up

If you don't have the receipt or packing slip for an item, you may receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card.

When returning an item purchased from a Target Storefront™ Partner, you must provide the receipt or present the original method of payment for receipt lookup. Receipts for items sold by Partners are sent via email when the order is shipped, and again when the order is delivered. You can also print your receipt on your order details page.

You may exchange or return the item in store with a valid receipt. Target.com purchases can also be returned by mail using our online return center.

Some items may also be eligible for a refund or replacement request online. To begin:
  1. Sign into your Target.com account.
  2. Select view details next to the order, then report an issue
  • Report an issue will only appear as an option for eligible items.
  1. Select damaged, then continue.
  2. Select the damaged item from your order, then continue.
  3. Select Replacement or Refund, then continue
  • Replacements will be processed as an even exchange. You won’t receive additional charges.
  • Once you request a replacement, you can’t return the item in store as this will cancel the replacement request.
  1. Enter your phone number, then select submit.
  2. You’ll be provided with instructions on what to do with the damaged item. 
  • If we require that the item be returned, we’ll provide a return mailing label. 
  • For refund requests, a refund will be issued back to the original payment method used.
  • For replacement requests, see order history for updates.

You may be able to report an item missing from your order by completing a refund or replacement request online. To begin:
 
  1. Sign into your Target.com account.
  2. Select view details next to the order, then report an issue.
  • Report an issue will only appear as an option for eligible items that have already shipped.
  1. Select missing, then continue.
  2. Select the item missing from your order, then continue.
  • Select items may offer a Chat option. 
  1. Based on the status of your order, you’ll be provided with either: 
  • Delivery date and tracking information.
  • Options to request a Replacement or Refund. For replacement requests, you won’t receive additional charges. See your order history for updates.
