Most store and Target.com items can be exchanged in store within the return policy time frame. 

You can also return Target.com purchases by mail and place a new order. To start your online return, visit your order page and locate the item within your order history. Select return & receipts  next to the item and follow the prompts to complete your return.

Exchanges on free promotional items are offered with a valid receipt if the free promotional item you wish to exchange is defective and we have a replacement item in stock.

For Target.com purchases, you can access or print a copy of your receipt by signing into your Target.com account.

We can also attempt to look up the receipt for your purchase in store. Bring the item, a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license) and the method of payment used to Guest Services within the return window allowed for that item (see Target Return Policy).

The store can look up receipts for purchases made with the following methods of payment:
  • A Target REDcard™ (Target Debit Card™, Target Credit Card™, Target™ Mastercard®)
  • Third-party Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, and Discover® credit cards
  • Checks: You must bring a blank check from the same checking account
  • Target GiftCards: You must have the physical Target GiftCard for look-up

If your original receipt isn't available, you may receive a merchandise return card for your refund in store. Visit our merchandise return cards page for information.

You may exchange or return the item in store with a valid receipt. You can also return Target.com purchases by mail.

To start your online return or exchange:
  1. Sign into your Target.com account on your order page.
  2. Select view details next to the order.
  3. Select report an issue
  4. Select damaged, then continue.
  5. Select the damaged item from your order, then continue.
  6. Select Replacement or Refund, then continue
  • Replacements will be processed as an even exchange. You won’t receive additional charges.
  • Once you request a replacement, you can’t return the item in store as this will cancel the replacement request.
  1. Enter your phone number, then select submit.
  2. You’ll be provided with instructions on what to do with the damaged item. 
  • If we require that the item be returned, we’ll provide a return mailing label. 
  • For refund requests, a refund will be issued back to the original payment method used.
  • For replacement requests, see order history for updates.

To report an item missing from an order:
  1. Sign into your Target.com account on your order page.
  2. Select view details next to the order.
  3. Select report an issue.
    • Report an issue option will only be available after the item has shipped.
  4. Select missing, then continue.
  5. Select the item missing from your order, then continue.
    • Select items may receive a Chat option. 
  6. Based on the status of your order, you’ll be provided with either: 
    • Delivery date and tracking information.
    • Options to request a Replacement or Refund.
      • For Replacement requests, you won’t receive additional charges. See your order history for updates.
