When are items made available for Pre-order?

When an item is available for Pre-order, you will have the option to Pre-order Now on the product detail page. 

When an item is available for Pre-order, there is a limited quantity of Pre-order inventory available. Once the limit has been met, no additional Pre-orders can be submitted. If a Pre-order gets canceled for any reason, we’re unable to reinstate the order and you may be unable to re-order if the limit has been met. Once all Pre-orders have shipped, any remaining inventory will then become available for purchase.

When do you reveal the release date for Pre-order items?

Target publishes a Pre-order item’s release date once we receive it from the item’s vendor. If an official release date hasn’t yet been set by the vendor, our website and app will show No release date yet or Delivered on or shortly after release date. 

Note that, even after a release date is set, vendors may change a previously advertised release date. Learn about release dates changing for Pre-order items.

Do release dates for Pre-order items change after purchase?

Sometimes we have a release date, but other times we may only have a placeholder date until the official release date is determined. Either way, we display dates that are approved and provided by the vendor. 

Vendors may change a previously advertised release date. When this happens, we’ll inform you via email to the email address associated with your Target account. If requested, please follow the link in the email to confirm that you still want the Pre-ordered item via your Target account or the Target app. Please make that confirmation as soon as possible; if not confirmed, Target must cancel your Pre-order. You won’t be charged, but we also cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to place another Pre-order for the canceled item.

Can I get a Pre-order item on its release date?

Pre-orders are only available for shipping and cannot be picked up or delivered via Same Day Delivery on the release date. We endeavor to get your Pre-order item to your selected delivery location by the estimated delivery date provided in your Order Confirmation email, which is typically on or shortly after the release date. 

You may be able to upgrade your Pre-order shipping method to Express shipping. Express shipping is available for a fee and, if available, can be selected when placing your order. Your item(s) are expected to be delivered within 1 business day after the items have been shipped and picked up by the delivery carrier. Learn more about Express shipping.

When will I get an estimated delivery date for a Pre-order?

Pre-orders are fulfilled based on the street date provided by the vendor. Once we have a confirmed street date, we'll provide you with an estimated delivery date. The street date is not the same as the delivery date.

When will I be charged for a Pre-order item?

When you place an order for a Pre-order item, we will send an authorization hold request to your card issuer. The authorization hold is not an actual charge and will eventually expire and drop off your account based upon the time-frame set by your card-issuing bank. If the authorization hold expires before the item’s release date or before the order is ready to be shipped, the authorization will automatically renew. If any attempt to renew the authorization fails, you’ll be reminded by email to change the payment card type/details. You won’t be charged for your order until it ships.

Do you price adjust Pre-order items?

We do a systematic price check when a Pre-order item is ready to be shipped. At the time of shipment, we will invoice you for the exact price of the item. If the price of a Pre-order item is lowered after you placed the order but then goes back up again by the time the item ships, the system won’t automatically invoice you for the lowest price.
