Physical Gift Card
  • Physical gift cards with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express logo can be used at any merchant that accepts Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Just present your card at the time of payment and sign the receipt. Some restrictions apply. Your card can't be used for cash advances, ATM transactions or at casinos. If purchasing gas, pay inside to avoid a temporary hold of funds. When using your card at locations such as restaurants, hotels or salons, the merchant may hold an additional amount for tips or other charges. The hold will be removed within seven days. To select a pin for your card, visit mybalancenow.com. When you use the card, your balance will be reduced by the full amount of the purchase, including sales tax.
  • To use your third-party gift card online at Target.com, you’ll enter the gift card as a credit card payment and the CVV code during the checkout process.

Digital Gift Card
  • Digital Visa, Mastercard and American Express eGift Cards can be used online at any merchant website that accepts Visa, Mastercard or American Express in the United States. Select the View and Print Your eGift Card link in the eGift Card delivery email. Select Copy Card Number to enter the card number on the merchant website. View the security code on the back of the card by selecting the link below the card image.
  • Digital Visa and American Express eGift Cards can also be used in a store by adding the eGift Card to a digital wallet (Apple Pay®, Samsung Pay and Google Pay™). Select the link in the eGift Card delivery email to view instructions. Visa and American Express eGift Cards cannot be added to your Target Wallet in the Target app.
  • Digital Mastercard eGift Cards can only be redeemed online and cannot be loaded into any digital wallet.

Keep in mind:
  • If your transaction total is more than the amount on the gift card, you’ll need to use another form of payment to pay the remaining balance.
  • Third-party gift cards can be used in conjunction with a Target GiftCard. However, only one third-party gift card can be applied toward an order, and third-party gift cards and credit cards cannot be combined in the same order transaction.
  • Some purchases require a pre-authorization. In these cases, a merchant may request pre-authorization for more than the purchase amount and the amount actually charged will reflect the amount signed for.
  • Third-party gift cards including Visa, Mastercard and American Express gift cards are not reloadable.

Refunds for items returned that were purchased with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express Gift Card can be issued to the original gift card up to the original value of the card. Refunds usually show on the gift card within 7–10 days, but can vary by merchant. Merchants may have different policies for handling refunds of more than the original value of the gift card, so you'll need to check with the merchant when making your return.

If you believe your Visa, Mastercard, or American Express Gift Card has been lost or stolen, you'll need to notify Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. You'll be asked to provide the card number and other identifying information. If you don't have the card number, an original receipt showing the purchase of the card should suffice. If records show a value still remains on the card, American Express, Mastercard, or Visa can cancel the lost or stolen card and refund the available value to you in the form of another Visa, Mastercard, or American Express gift card. There's no fee for replacing a lost or stolen card.
