Follow a safety checklist before you ride:
  • Check that tires are properly inflated and free of damage
  • Check the brakes
  • Spin your tire, and be sure the brakes aren't rubbing when not engaged
  • Spin your tire again, and engage the brake to be sure it stops abruptly
  • Check the cables. Be sure they move smoothly and are not frayed
  • Check all quick release levers to ensure they are secure
  • Check for any loose bolts or parts and tighten as needed
  • Check to ensure that you have no loose clothing and shoelaces are tied tightly
  • Put on your helmet and adjust to fit
