Target reserves the right to deny returns, refunds and exchanges including but not limited to prevent fraud, suspected fraud or abuse.

Target's Return Policy
Most unopened items sold by Target in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. The return window for items sold on Target.com begins once the order has been invoiced. Invoicing happens when any part of the order is shipped, delivered by a Shipt shopper or made ready for pick up. Some items sold by Target have a modified return policy noted on the receipt, packing slip, Target policy board (refund exceptions), Target.com or in the item description. Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a receipt may be denied a refund or exchange.

Target Plus™ Partner’s Return Policy
Most unopened items sold by a Target Plus Partner in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund. The return window for items sold on Target.com begins once the order has been invoiced. All items sold by Partners must be returned to Target, either in store or by mail. Some items sold by a Target Plus Partner have a modified return policy on Target.com. Items that are opened or damaged may be denied a refund. In-store returns without an eligible receipt will be denied. Some items, such as electronics, may have a shorter return window. Refer to the individual item description for return policy information.

Returns and exchanges without a receipt may be limited. Other restrictions may apply.
  • Target Owned Brand items: If you’re not satisfied with any Target Owned Brand item, return it within one year with a receipt for an exchange or a refund.
  • EBT card purchases: Any item paid for with an EBT card online must be returned within 90 days of the date it was shipped, delivered by a Shipt shopper, or made ready for pickup. This 90-day return window is required by SNAP.
  • Target Circle Card purchases: Target Circle™ debit and credit card holders will receive an extra 30 days to return nearly all items purchased with their Target Circle Card at Target and Target.com. Visit Target.com/CircleCard for full details and exclusions.
  • Holiday & limited-time-only collections: Items may have modified return policies.
  • Purchases at Optical, Pharmacy, Starbucks & Target Tech: Items must be returned or exchanged at these areas.
  • International purchases: Target stores cannot accept international returns or exchanges, including international returns and exchanges of online purchases

The following items cannot be returned:
  • Trading cards & trading card accessories (e.g., Pokemon, Sport cards, trading card binders)
  • Open or defective collectibles (e.g., special edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars)
  • Personalized items and digital downloads
  • Opened/unsealed breast pumps
  • Specialty gift cards, pre-paid gift cards and Target GiftCards cannot be returned or redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law. This includes Target GiftCards, Visa®, Mastercard®, or American Express® Gift Card, restaurant, entertainment, lottery cards.

The following items are eligible only for exchange if opened:
  • Music, movies, video games and software (exchange for same title, for same or different gaming platform)
  • Airbeds (exchange for similar item)

The following items have a shorter window for returns and exchanges:
  • Electronics and entertainment items (excluding Apple® & Beats products) must be returned / exchanged within 30 days.
  • All Apple® & Beats products (including mobile phones) must be returned / exchanged within 14 days.
  • Mobile phones purchased in-store or online via Order Pickup must be returned / exchanged within 14 days.

Additional Fees: Mobile Phones
  • Mobile phones purchased with a carrier contract may be subject to early termination fees per carrier contract if returned or exchanged. Contract items and carrier plans must be returned in a Target store with help from a Target Tech Rep.
  • A restocking charge of up to $35 for phones may apply except where prohibited. The restocking charge will be taxed in select states. There is no restocking charge if the product is unopened.

Payment method
  • In most cases your refund will automatically go back to the original form of payment used for the purchase. If you used multiple forms of payment, your refund may go back to all payment methods used.
  • If you’re returning something in a store, but you don’t have the original receipt or return barcode, you may get a merchandise return card for your refund.
  • Refunds are issued to the original payment method(s) in most circumstances.
    • Purchases made with a Target GiftCard will be credited back as a new Target eGiftCard.
    • Items paid for with PayPal prior to September 13, 2022, will be refunded to a Target GiftCard.
  • If you’ve lost the credit or debit card the refund is supposed to go back to you on, contact the card issuer for refund information.

Timing
  • Refunds to a Target Circle™ Card typically take up to 2 days after we’ve approved the refund.
  • Refunds to a third-party credit card typically take up to 5 days after we’ve approved the refund. For information about refunds to a third-party credit card, contact your card issuer.
  • For items returned to our Online Return Center, we have to first inspect and process the return. Therefore, once the Online Return Center receives your return, it takes an average of 7-10 additional business days before we’ve approved your refund.

Not all recalled products require a return and refund from Target. In some cases, you’ll work directly with the vendor for a repair, replacement or refund.  

If you purchased a product at Target that is later recalled:
  1. Stop using the product immediately.
  2. Search for the recalled product on Target's product recall page.
  3. Follow the directions listed in the Take Immediate Action section.

Return in-store: These items cannot be returned without one of the following types of receipts:
  • A valid receipt
  • A return barcode
    • The return barcode should be available once the order has shipped, delivered by a Shipt shopper or picked up.
    • Follow Start a return online instructions below to find the return barcode.
  • The payment credit or debit card used to purchase the item.
    • The store can attempt a receipt lookup.

Start a return online: On Target.com and in the Target app you can begin to process your return or replacement, or find the return barcode for in-store returns.
  1. Access your Target account.
  2. From the toggle at the top of the page, select Online to view your orders.
  3. Locate your item under Orders on Target.com or under Purchases in the Target app.
  4. Select either:
    • The Return option (return to store or by mail)
    • Fix an issue (get help with missing or damaged items, etc.)
  5. Follow prompts to complete your refund or replacement request, or to access your return barcode for in-store returns.
    • Replacements are subject to availability and will process as an even exchange. You won’t receive additional charges. 
      • If you’ve started a replacement online but decide to return the item to the store, your replacement will be canceled.
    • Refunds are issued to the original payment method(s) in most circumstances.
      • Purchases made with a Target GiftCard will be credited back as a new Target eGiftCard.
      • Items paid for with PayPal prior to September 13, 2022, will be refunded to a Target GiftCard.
      • You’ll be provided with instructions on what to do with your item(s).
    • If mail in of return item is required: We’ll provide a free return mailing label and instructions by email and on your order details page.
      • Include the original item, packaging, and any accessories. 
        • We may issue your refund before we receive your returned item. If we inspect the item and it’s not eligible based on our return policy, we may charge your card for the refund we’ve already issued to you.
        • Target doesn’t keep unexpected or ineligible (used, damaged, etc.) items sent to us. When able, we’ll donate or recycle them. If you’ve sent something to Target and want it back, contact us at 1-800-591-3869. We can’t guarantee we’ll be able to find and send back your item. We also can't compensate you for unexpected or ineligible items returned to Target.
      • Attach the return label to the outside of the package.
      • Drop your package off at an authorized UPS location. Visit http://ups.com/dropoff to find a location.
    • If returning in store: Take the return barcode to Guest Services in the store to have a team member start your return.

You may replace or return the item in store at Guest Services by bringing the return item along with one of the below: 
  • A valid receipt
  • A return barcode
    • Follow Finding the return barcode instructions below, as needed.
  • The payment credit or debit card used to purchase the item 
    • The store can attempt a receipt lookup. 

Returns must comply with our return policy.  

Finding the return barcode
The return barcode is available in the Target app or on Target.com for purchases linked to your account: 
  1. Access your Target account. 
  2. From the toggle at the top of the page, select In-Store to view your store purchases. 
  3. Locate your item under Orders on Target.com or under Purchases in the Target app. 
    • App: Select the Return option, then the return barcode will appear on the page.
    • Web: The return barcode will appear on the page.
  4. Present this barcode to Guest Services inside the store.

To return your items to Target, you’ll need to print a return shipping label. Because Target orders are sometimes split into multiple shipments, you may be prompted to print multiple return labels. Multiple items may be placed in the same packaging if they appear on the same shipping label.

Items purchased on Target.com may be returned to any Target store using the receipt, the barcode found in the Target app, Target delivery or shipping confirmation email or the original form of payment.

Some items are only returnable in store and can't be mailed back to our online return center. This will be indicated in the shipping & returns section on the product details page. Store returnable only items may be designated as hazardous material (hazmat) items because they contain potentially harmful chemicals.

Baby and Wedding registries have up to one year after your event date to return most new, unopened items, including most new, unopened items sold by a Target Plus Partner at your Target store using your return barcode. 

Wish lists have up to 90 days after the purchase date to return unopened items, including most new, unopened items sold by a Target Plus Partner at your Target store using your return barcode. 

You can access the return barcode on your Target.com Registry or Wish List Homepage:
  1. Access your Target account.
  2. Visit the Registry & Wish List page and select your desired gifting experience.
  3. In the Offers & benefits section on your registry’s Home page, select Start a return.
  4. Select a store.
  5. The barcode is only valid at the selected store for the date it is generated on.
  6. A minimum spend is required against the registry / wish list to qualify for returns.

Refunds will be issued in the form of a Target GiftCard when using a gift receipt for Registry Gift Purchase Log. If returning an item that hasn't been marked as purchased on your registry or wish list, you'll receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card. Items purchased from Shopping Lists don't  have an extended return period and require a receipt or gift receipt for a return or exchange.

In addition, Target Plus items must be returned with a receipt / proof of purchase.

You can return an item you received as a gift to a Target store using a gift receipt or packing slip, and you’ll receive a refund in the form of a Target GiftCard. If a merchandise return card was used to pay for any portion of the sales transaction, you’ll receive that portion of the refund as a merchandise return card. In store returns using a gift receipt can’t be processed the same day the gift was purchased; you’ll need to wait until the next day to return the gift. If you don't have the gift receipt or packing slip for the item, you may receive a merchandise return card in store.

Items purchased from Target.com can also be returned by mail using the gift receipt or packing slip. To return your gift by mail, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.

If you didn't receive a packing slip with your gift, you can call Target.com Guest Services for help in processing your return.

When returning an item purchased from a Target Plus™ Partner, you must present the receipt or original method of payment for receipt lookup. Receipts for items sold by Target Plus Partners are sent via email when the order is shipped, and again when the order is delivered. Receipts can also be printed from the order details page. Items sold by our Partners are returnable in store or by mail. Gift returns for items sold by our Partners will be refunded in the form of a physical or electronic Target GiftCard via mail or email.

Refunds for items returned that were purchased with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express Gift Card can be issued to the original gift card up to the original value of the card. Refunds usually show on the gift card within 7–10 days, but can vary by merchant. Merchants may have different policies for handling refunds of more than the original value of the gift card, so you'll need to check with the merchant when making your return.

We have a few ways of helping you return your items and we do our best to make sure you have proof of purchase.

Return barcodes and receipts can be accessed from your Target account for both online purchases and in-store purchases (if you’ve paid in store with a card associated to your Target account or your Wallet in the Target app).

For your online purchases: Please refer to your delivery and shipping confirmation emails for your order, the barcode related to your purchase in your Target account or the barcode in the Target app.

We can also attempt to look up the receipt for store and online purchases in store. Bring the item and the method of payment used to Guest Services within the return window allowed for that item (visit Target Return Policy).

The store can look up receipts for purchases made with the following payment methods:
  • Target Circle Card™ (Target Circle™ Debit Card, Target Circle™ Credit Card, Target Circle™ Mastercard®)
  • Third-party Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express® and Discover® credit cards

If you don't have the proof of purchase (examples include receipts, digital barcodes, packing slips), you may receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card.

When returning an item purchased from a Target Plus™ Partner, you must provide the proof of purchase. Receipts for items sold by Target Plus Partners are sent via email when the order is shipped, and again when the order is delivered. You can also print your receipt on your order details page or use a digital barcode found within the Target app or your Target account.

You can return your damaged or defective item to any Target store for a full refund with no stocking fees.

If you wish to send your damaged or defective item back for a refund, please contact Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. They will help to schedule a pickup for the damaged or defective item.

Most items, including large items, can be returned to a Target store for a refund with no stocking fees. Some large items, such as furniture and electronics, may be eligible for return pickup. To determine if your item is eligible for pickup by our return carrier, have your order information handy and call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. 

Please note:
  • Return items should be disassembled, boxed and brought to the same point of delivery for the carrier to pick up.
  • Pickups are scheduled during the carrier’s normal business hours and typically have an 8-hour pickup window. Depending on your location, carriers may need additional time to pick up your return. 
  • Include the packing slip with your item so our return center can process your refund. If you don't have a packing slip, you can still return your item to our return center. Learn how to start your return.
  • Return pickup is not offered on all items, and is typically reserved for large items weighing more than 150 pounds.
  • A signature by a person who is 18 years or older will be required, unless the delivery method was To-the-Door Delivery.

If our online return center has declined a return for any reason, you'll receive an email from us.
 
A return may be declined for one of the following reasons:
  • Your return was outside of the return window.
  • The item appears worn or used.
  • The item was opened.
  • The item was non-returnable or non-returnable if opened.
  • The online return center wasn't able to locate the order number or other information needed to process the return.
  • The item is not a Target.com item.

When purchasing items as part of a Buy One Get One (BOGO) promotion, the promotional discount is based on the lowest priced item, then applied to each item proportionately. If you choose to return any of the items, your refund will be reduced to the discounted amount for each item.

Here are some examples:
  • Buy One, Get One Free: If your first qualifying item is $60 and your second qualifying item is $40, the $60 item will be discounted by $24 and the $40 item will be discounted by $16, which gives a total discount of $40. If either item is returned, the return value will be equal to the original purchase price reduced by its prorated discount.
  • Buy One, Get One 50% Off: If your first qualifying item is $60 and your second qualifying item is $40, the $60 item will be discounted by $12 and the $40 item will be discounted by $8, which gives a total discount of $20. If either item is returned, the return value will be equal to the original purchase price reduced by its prorated discount.

For most items, you aren't required to return the free gift or gift card with the qualifying item. However, if you return the qualifying item, the amount of the refund will be reduced by the prorated value of the free gift or gift card. The free gift can be returned alone, but you'll only receive the prorated value of the free gift. 

However, if you are getting refunded for the qualifying item in a free gift or gift card promotion, the amount of the refund will be reduced by the prorated value of the free gift or gift card. Similarly, if you are getting refunded for just the free gift, you'll only receive the prorated value of the free gift.
  • Physical Target Promotional GiftCards need to be returned unused to receive the full return value. If the gift card isn’t returned, the return value will be reduced by the amount of the free gift card. 
    • Target Promotional eGiftCards and mobile GiftCards are non-refundable
  • Promotional gift cards must be returned with qualifying Target Mobile purchases to be eligible for a refund.

Shipping charges may be refunded depending on the reason for your refund. If your shipping charges aren't refunded, please call Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 to determine if you're eligible for a refund. You may not be refunded for shipping charges if:
  • Your return was declined by our Online Return Center.
  • Your return was not due to an error by Target.

If you placed an order and haven’t received it yet, you can refuse your order when the shipper delivers your package. When we receive the returned items, we’ll credit your account for the price of the items and any shipping costs.
