Target's Return Policy
Most unopened items sold by Target in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. Some items sold by Target have a modified return policy noted on the receipt, packing slip, Target policy board (refund exceptions), Target.com or in the item department. Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a receipt may be denied a refund or exchange.

Target Plus™ Partner’s Return Policy
Most unopened items sold by a Target Plus Partner in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund. All items sold by Partners must be returned to Target, either in store or by mail. Some items sold by a Target Plus Partner have a modified return policy on Target.com. Items that are opened or damaged may be denied a refund.

Returns and exchanges without a receipt may be limited. Other restrictions may apply.
  • If you’re not satisfied with any Target Owned Brand item, return it within one year with a receipt for an exchange or a refund.
  • Target RedCard™ debit and credit card holders will receive an extra 30 days to return nearly all items purchased with their RedCard at Target and Target.com. Visit Target.com/RedCard for full details and exclusions.
  • All electronics and entertainment items must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange. For these items purchased between 11/1 – 12/25, the 30-day refund period will start on 12/26. 
  • All mobile phones must be returned or exchanged within 14 days of in-store purchase or online order pickup. All items purchased with a carrier contract must be returned or exchanged within 30 days and may be subject to early termination fees per carrier contract. Contract items and carrier plans must be returned in a Target store with help from a Target Tech Rep.
  • All Apple® products, excluding mobile phones, must be returned within 15 days.  For these items purchased between 11/1-12/25, the 15-day refund period will start on 12/26.
  • Holiday items and limited-time-only collections may have modified return policies.
  • ​Open music, movies, video games and software cannot be returned, but may be exchanged at the store for the same title, for the same or different gaming platform.
  • Open airbeds cannot be returned, but may be exchanged for a similar item.
  • Open or defective collectibles (e.g., sports cards, special edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars) cannot be returned.
  • Personalized items and digital downloads cannot be returned. 
  • Target stores cannot accept international returns or exchanges, including international returns and exchanges of online purchases.
  • Items purchased at Optical, Pharmacy, Starbucks and Target Tech must be returned or exchanged at these areas.
  • Target Mobile GiftCards and Target eGiftCards cannot be returned or redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law.
  • Specialty pre-paid and gift cards (e.g., Restaurant, entertainment, lottery cards) cannot be returned.
  • Gasoline powered items such as lawnmowers can only be returned to a Target store and must be completely emptied of hazardous substances such as gasoline or oil at the time of return. If your item contains hazardous residue contact Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.

Most beauty items bought in stores or online can be returned, even if opened, within 90 days with your receipt, or up to 120 days if purchased with your Target RedCard™.

You have up to one year after your event date to return most new, unopened items at your Target store using your return barcode.

You can access the return barcode inside the Target Registry app. Use the menu in the top left-hand corner to select make a return to generate your return barcode. Make sure you also have a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license) and that your items are new, unused and in original packaging with any accessories.

If returning an item that hasn't been marked as purchased on your registry, you'll receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card. Items purchased from Kids' Wish Lists and Shopping Lists do not have an extended return period and require a receipt or gift receipt for a return or exchange. Target Mobile GiftCards and Target eGiftCards purchased on Target.com cannot be returned or redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law. Physical Target GiftCards can be returned in store with a receipt if unused.

In most cases your refund will automatically go back to the original form of payment used for the purchase. In the event you used multiple forms of payment, your refund may be issued across all payment methods used.

Refunds to a Target RedCard typically take 1-2 days. Refunds to a third-party credit card typically take 1-3 days. For information about refunds to a third-party credit card, contact your card-issuing financial institution.

It can take up to 5 additional business days to inspect and process items returned to our Online Return Center before refunds can be processed.

For returns made in store, you may request a different refund option based on the original purchase method below.

Visit here if your order was delivered by EFW or FedEx Freight and you need to return it.

You may replace or return the item in store with a valid receipt. Target.com purchases can also be returned by mail using our online return center. Returns must comply with our return policy

To return your item(s) to a Target store or to our online return center:
  1. Access your Target account.
  2. Select Orders on Target.com or Purchases in the Target app to locate your order.
  3. Locate and select order.
  4. Select Return an item.
  5. Select one of the following:
  • Return to store: Take barcode to the store to have a team member start your return.
  • Return by mail:
    • Select item to return.
    • Select a return reason from drop-down menu, then select Continue.
    • Select Replace item or Refund item, then select Continue.
    • Select Shipping address.
      • Visit your account to add or edit an address.
    • Select Submit, then select print mailing label and follow the steps to print your mailing label.
  1. Attach the return label to the outside of the package.
  • Item(s) must be in their original packaging and condition.
  1. Drop your package off at an authorized UPS location. Visit ups.com/dropoff to find a location.

Some items may be eligible for a refund or replacement request online. To begin: 
  1. Access your Target account.
  2. Locate your item(s) under Orders on Target.com or under Purchases in the Target app.
  3. Select Fix an issue next to missing item(s). 
  • Fix an issue will only appear as an option for eligible items.
  1. Follow prompts to complete your refund or replacement request.
  • Replacements are subject to availability and will process as an even exchange. You won't receive additional charges.
  • Once you request a replacement, you can’t return the original item in store because this will cancel the replacement request.
  • Refunds are issued to the original payment method.
    • Items paid for with PayPal will be refunded to a Target GiftCard.
  1. You’ll be provided with instructions on what to do with your item(s). 
  • If we require that the item be returned, we’ll provide a return mailing label. 
  • For replacement requests, navigate to your order history for updates.

You can return your item at any Target store for a full refund with no stocking fees.

If you wish to send it back for a refund instead, please contact Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. They will help schedule a return. A refund will be issued to the original form of payment. Returning an item by the carrier varies slightly depending on the delivery service you originally used.

All items delivered via FedEx Freight will be returned to Target via Estes Forwarding Worldwide (EFW).

Returns for To-the-Door Delivery items:
  • EFW will contact you within two business days to schedule a pickup date. The pick up schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, with an 9-hour pickup window. 
  • You will receive a confirmation email with pick up details. 

Returns for Inside-the-Door or Room-of-Choice Delivery items:
  • EFW will contact you within two business days to schedule a pickup date and time. The pick up schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, with an 8-hour pickup window. 
  • You will receive a confirmation email with pick up details. 
  • Someone 18 years or older must be home for the pickup and a signature is required.

Items purchased on Target.com may be returned to any Target store using the receipt, the barcode found in the Target app, Target delivery or shipping confirmation email or the original form of payment.

Some items are only returnable in store and can't be mailed back to our online return center. This will be indicated in the shipping & returns section on the product details page. Store returnable only items may be designated as hazardous material (hazmat) items because they contain potentially harmful chemicals.

To return your items to Target.com, you’ll need to print a return shipping label. Because Target.com orders are sometimes split into multiple shipments, you may be prompted to print multiple return labels. Multiple items may be placed in the same packaging if they appear on the same shipping label.

Credits can be issued to your Target® Visa®, Mastercard®, or American Express® Gift Card up to the original value of the card. Credits usually show on the card within 7–10 days, but can vary by merchant. Merchants may have different policies for handling credits of more than the original value of the card, so you'll need to check with the merchant when making your return.

Your Target® Visa®, Mastercard® or American Express® Gift Card can be returned to any Target store with a valid, original-purchase receipt. Your card must be new, unopened, contain all original packaging, and must be returned within 90 days of purchase.

We have a few ways of helping you return your items and we do our best to make sure you have proof of purchase.

Return barcodes and receipts can be accessed from your Target.com account for both Target.com purchases and in-store purchases (if you’ve paid in store with a card associated to your Target.com account or your Wallet in the Target app).

For your Target.com purchases: Please refer to your delivery and shipping confirmation emails for your order, the barcode related to your purchase in your Target account or the barcode in the Target app.

We can also attempt to look up the receipt for store and Target.com purchases in store. Bring the item and the method of payment used to Guest Services within the return window allowed for that item (visit Target Return Policy).

The store can look up receipts for purchases made with the following payment methods:
  • Target RedCard™ (Target Debit Card™, Target Credit Card™, Target™ Mastercard®)
  • Third-party Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, and Discover® credit cards
  • Checks: You must bring a blank check from the same checking account
  • Target GiftCards: You must have the physical Target GiftCard for look-up

If you don't have the proof of purchase (examples include receipts, digital barcodes, packing slips), you may receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card.

When returning an item purchased from a Target Plus™ Partner, you must provide the proof of purchase. Receipts for items sold by Target Plus Partners are sent via email when the order is shipped, and again when the order is delivered. You can also print your receipt on your order details page or use a digital barcode found within the Target app or your Target account.

You can return an item you received as a gift to a Target store using a gift receipt or packing slip, and you’ll receive a refund in the form of a Target GiftCard. If a merchandise return card was used to pay for any portion of the sales transaction, you’ll receive that portion of the refund as a merchandise return card. In store returns using a gift receipt can’t be processed the same day the gift was purchased; you’ll need to wait until the next day to return the gift. If you don't have the gift receipt or packing slip for the item, you may receive a merchandise return card in store.

Items purchased from Target.com can also be returned by mail using the gift receipt or packing slip. To return your gift by mail, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.

If you didn't receive a packing slip with your gift, you can call Target.com Guest Services for help in processing your return.

When returning an item purchased from a Target Plus™ Partner, you must present the receipt or original method of payment for receipt lookup. Receipts for items sold by Target Plus Partners are sent via email when the order is shipped, and again when the order is delivered. Receipts can also be printed from the order details page. Items sold by our Partners are returnable in store or by mail. Gift returns for items sold by our Partners will be refunded in the form of a physical or electronic Target GiftCard via mail or email.

If our online return center has declined a return for any reason, the order will be shipped back to you and you'll receive an email explaining the details of the declined return. Our online return center will send the order back to you via FedEx® and you should receive it within 7 days.
 
Often times our online return center can reuse the tracking number from your return shipment, so you may be able to use this information to track the return of your declined order.
 
A return may be declined for one of the following reasons:
  • Your return was outside of the return window.
  • The item appears worn or used.
  • The item was opened.
  • The item was non-returnable or non-returnable if opened.
  • The online return center wasn't able to locate the order number or other information needed to process the return.
  • The item is not a Target.com item.

If you have your receipt:
  • Return your item(s) the way you normally would.
  • After Target processes your refund, the full refund amount will appear on your loan balance within 3–45 business days. 
  • While waiting for your refund, continue to make any monthly payments that are due.
  • If your refund doesn’t cover your full balance, it might not lower your next monthly payment. Instead you can expect fewer monthly payments, a smaller final payment, or both.
  • If your refund is more than your total loan balance, you’ll get the difference back, minus any interest you’ve paid. We’ll credit your payment method within 3–10 business days. If you don’t have a payment method on file, you’ll receive a check in the mail within 14 business days.

Most items, including large items, can be returned to a Target store. Some large items, such as furniture and electronics, may be eligible for return pickup. To determine if your item is eligible for pickup by our return carrier, have your order information handy and call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869

Please note:
  • Return items should be disassembled, boxed and brought to the same point of delivery for the carrier to pick up.
  • Pickups are scheduled during the carrier’s normal business hours and typically have an 8-hour pickup window. Depending on your location, carriers may need additional time to pick up your return. 
  • Include the packing slip with your item so our return center can process your refund. If you don't have a packing slip, you can still return your item to our return center. Learn how to start your return.
  • Return pickup is not offered on all items, and is typically reserved for large items weighing more than 150 pounds.
  • A signature by a person who is 18 years or older will be required, unless the delivery method was To-the-Door Delivery.

When purchasing items as part of a Buy One Get One (BOGO) promotion, the promotional discount is based on the lowest priced item, then applied to each item proportionately. If you choose to return any of the items, your refund will be reduced to the discounted amount for each item.

Here are some examples:
  • Buy One, Get One Free: If your first qualifying item is $60 and your second qualifying item is $40, the $60 item will be discounted by $24 and the $40 item will be discounted by $16, which gives a total discount of $40. If either item is returned, the return value will be equal to the original purchase price reduced by its prorated discount.
  • Buy One, Get One 50% Off: If your first qualifying item is $60 and your second qualifying item is $40, the $60 item will be discounted by $12 and the $40 item will be discounted by $8, which gives a total discount of $20. If either item is returned, the return value will be equal to the original purchase price reduced by its prorated discount.

For most items, you aren't required to return the free gift or gift card with the qualifying item. However, if you return the qualifying item, the amount of the refund will be reduced by the prorated value of the free gift or gift card. The free gift can be returned alone, but you'll only receive the prorated value of the free gift. 

For example, if you make a purchase under a promotion for “buy a $30 item and receive a free $10 Target GiftCard,” you’d receive a refund of $20 when only returning the qualifying item. Your store receipt shows return values of each item if returned individually and states, "All items must be returned for full refund."
 
  • All Target Mobile GiftCards and eGiftCards are non-returnable and non-refundable. Physical Target GiftCards are returnable in store.
  • Promotional gift cards must be returned with qualifying Target Mobile purchases to be eligible for a refund.

Shipping charges may be refunded depending on the reason for your Target.com return. If your shipping charges aren't refunded, please call Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 to determine if you're eligible for a refund. You may not be refunded for shipping charges if:
  • The return was declined by our online return center.
  • The return was not due to an error by Target.

If you placed an order and haven’t received it yet, you can refuse your order when the shipper delivers your package. When we receive the returned items, we’ll credit your account for the price of the items and any shipping costs.
