How do I check the balance on my third-party gift card?

  • Physical Gift Card: To check the balance on your physical third-party gift card, including a Visa®, Mastercard® or American Express® gift card, refer to the back of card for details. 
  • Digital Gift Card: To check the balance on a third-party digital eGift Card (email delivery), select the View and Print Your eGift Card link in the eGift Card delivery email.

To purchase a specialty gift card, visit our Specialty Gift Card page on Target.com or purchase at your Target store.

Are there any exceptions for purchasing gift cards?

Target GiftCards can’t be used to purchase the following:
  • American Express®, Visa® or Mastercard® gift cards or prepaid cards
  • Specialty gift cards in store or from Target.com, including gift cards for gaming, music and restaurants, such as Xbox and Olive Garden
  • Target GiftCards

Can I use a third-party gift card at Target?

Target GiftCards can be used at Target stores or on Target.com, and Starbucks gift cards can be used at the in-store Starbucks register. Target also accepts pre-paid gift cards with a Visa®, Mastercard®, Discover® or American Express® logo, but third-party gift cards for other merchants (e.g., Disney) cannot be used at Target.

Once I purchase a pre-paid or specialty gift card from Target, can I use it right away?

  • Physical Gift Card: Physical pre-paid or specialty gift cards purchased at Target may have a delayed activation period. Please check the receipt for more information on when the gift card can be redeemed. 
  • Digital Gift Card: Digital eGift Cards purchased on Target.com are active when the eGift Card email is delivered.

Can I purchase or redeem international gift cards?

Unfortunately, we do not currently support the sale of gift cards to international guests or the redemption of gift cards for international orders.
